Coat of Arms, Mushrooms, “Zhi–Shi” and Newcomers…

Today our classes grew in number. In “Zvezdochki” we welcomed a new pupil Andrei. And in “Kapelki”, George joined us for World Around Us and Creative lesson.

It turned out to be rather symbolic that Andrei joined the girls’ team in “The Zvezdochki” on this very day. “Why’s that?” you might ask. Because during reading comprehension, we explored the topic of knights. The children immersed themselves in history, discovering when knights first appeared, how they were raised, what set them apart from ordinary villagers, and what skills they mastered. They learnt about the code of honour, and after reflecting on it in the context of modern life, they wrote their very own “Code of Honour for Today”.

We also spoke about the coat of arms — a knight’s personal, family, and social emblem — and then created our own, inspired by what we’d studied. Oh, what imaginative pupils we have! The results were splendid. And after all that hard work, the good old cartoon “Ну, погоди!” gave everyone a well-deserved rest.

Meanwhile, our newcomer in “The Kapelki” group, George, quickly warmed to our lovely lot and, with genuine enthusiasm, set to work alongside his new classmates. And what a fine job he did, crafting a mushroom from threads! Yes indeed — today, during mushroom season, we learnt all about fungi: about their uniqueness, their variety, and their special traits. Our wonderful company of porcini mushrooms — the kings of woodland fungi — looked fantastic, as you’ll see in the photo gallery. Oh, how keen the children were to camouflage their little mushrooms with real leaves from the forest, so that any mushroom picker would have to work hard to spot them!

And what were Kapelki up to in Russian language? They met a new pair of consonants. The peculiarity of this pair is that they both dislike being followed by the vowel Ы. A curious old story… Have you guessed which pair yet? If not, you’ll certainly know once the children get to their homework. In class, we searched for these sounds in words, wrote them in the air and in our exercise books, learnt to distinguish between their voiced and voiceless versions, and even managed a bit of singing and playing. It was both fun and enlightening!

Zvezdochki also worked brilliantly in their Russian and reading lesson: practising neat handwriting, adding new spelling words to their “treasure chest” (their notebooks), recalling word families, discussing several proverbs, and of course reading and reciting aloud. Well done indeed! After such good work, the children treated themselves to a cartoon in the break and laughed. Quite right too — after a burst of hard work, a bit of jolly relaxation is most definitely in order.

Everything in balance, harmony, and cooperation. We give it our best — and it shows!
