The New Year celebrations continue! What a lucky time for the children!
This Sunday, in anticipation of the Chinese New Year, we explored the legend behind its traditions in China. Now we know exactly why fireworks, firecrackers, and red decorations remain so beloved by the Chinese to this day!
Did you guess why Kapelki created a little green snake during their creativity lesson? That’s right—it’s the Year of the Green Wooden Snake according to the lunar calendar! Our delightful, cheerful, and elegant little snakes will serve as talismans, helping the children become wiser, more thoughtful, and resourceful. Isn’t that marvellous?
In their Nature Studies lesson, Kapelki not only learned fascinating facts about wintering and migratory birds but also built a bird feeder! They even imagined themselves as birds and “pecked” at seeds—some preferred sunflower seeds, while others enjoyed pumpkin seeds more. No wonder—just like birds, children have their own unique tastes! It was both fun and educational.
Zvezdochki also immersed themselves in the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year, learning many intriguing facts about this Spring Festival. Wait a moment—spring? But it’s still winter! Yes, that’s the fascinating part! The Chinese New Year is called the Spring Festival because it symbolises the start of a new agricultural cycle, nature’s awakening, and the beginning of a fresh chapter in life.
And so, we embarked on a new learning adventure in our Financial Literacy lesson! During this magical period, the children tackled magic squares—but not by filling them in randomly! Instead, they applied their mathematical knowledge. They also explored ancient Chinese numerals and even solved equations using hieroglyphs—a real brain workout! These exercises not only sharpen logic, imagination, and perseverance but also reveal the beauty and harmony hidden in numbers. It was truly captivating!
During their Speech Development lesson, Zvezdochki were especially intrigued by the Guiding North Star. After reading about it, they enthusiastically discussed why the North Star appears so small in the sky, despite being 40 times larger than the Sun! Then, they were introduced to the concept of a light year and tried to grasp the speed of light. When they realised the staggering distance to the North Star, their excitement knew no bounds! 😁
Just imagine—a journey lasting several hundred years! Now that’s a mind-blowing thought!
