A Project on Cats. Vegetables in the Garden. All About Money.
Today was a truly marvellous day!
Zvezdochki had a fantastic time with their interactive project about cats. So much fascinating information was unearthed that it would make any researcher proud. We learnt about cat breeds, their wild relatives, anatomy, and even those clever little whiskers (scientifically known as vibrissae, of which there are five types!). We also explored feline behaviour and fun facts, all mixed with literature, architecture, and even entertainment. The children worked with great enthusiasm — and, of course, didn’t forget to sing in cat-language too!
In economics, Zvezdochki discussed the purpose of money, remembered its origins, and examined coins from different countries and historical periods. We even saw how commemorative coloured coins are made and solved some money-themed puzzles. Our Stars really outdid themselves — brilliant work all round!
Kapelki, meanwhile, danced in circles with matryoshka dolls! And not just one set — two colourful troupes of these lovely ladies joined us in class. One group came dressed in blue sarafans and headscarves, while the other wore green outfits. But this wasn’t just a fancy dress parade — it was all for a good reason. The blue group preferred words with hard consonants, while the green ones favoured soft consonants.
Our clever pupils quickly picked up on the pattern — helped along by the dolls’ very own names: Lada, Lilia, Nata, Nyunya, Marina, Michelle, Marina (again!), Raisa, and Richie. And so we sang and danced in circles, chanting along with the dolls: “La-lala-la-lalala...” and “Lya-lyalya-lya-lyalya...” We even played games with words, helping reinforce our understanding of soft and hard consonant sounds. Brilliant fun and learning rolled into one!
But the games didn’t end there. In maths, we solved addition and subtraction problems, and even tackled word problems. Then came the really fun part — logic and reasoning puzzles, which called for our little ones to transform into snails! Yes, you heard right — snails! Only by acting out these puzzling problems could we fully wrap our heads around them. One particularly curious challenge revealed that if three snails crawl two metres together, each snail has travelled two metres also. Eureka! What a discovery!
There’s no way to share everything we got up to, but we must mention our Science lesson. It’s peak season for gardeners and vegetable growers, and Kapelki were no exception. With the help of Умнейка and Неслушарик, we planted carrots and observed their growth stages. Then, we made a magical garden bed, filled with bright and tempting vegetables. The most beloved of all was the red bell pepper, standing proudly for all to admire. The cabbage and aubergine weren’t far behind — they turned out rather splendidly too. You can see for yourself in the photos. 😊
And with that, we head off into the holidays on a high note. We wish everyone a joyful break — full of splashing, tumbling, and plenty of playtime! See you again in the summer — on the 8th of June!
