Today, we found out that our younger pupils most enjoy playing with soft toys and balls. They also like playing with dolls, toy cars, and construction sets, although not quite as much. Today's Russian lesson was all about the letter И — the true star of the show!

The letter even gave us a handy tip: how to remember its correct form so as not to confuse it with the foreign letter N. The children remembered this well and consolidated the skill in their workbooks.

They also learnt the difference between Indians from India and Native Americans - Indians, imagined where and how Native Americans hunted, what they wore, and what they ate. And since the letter И was our hostess today, she invited some consonants to keep her company. She was so gentle with them that only soft sounds could be heard. The children remembered this too — and later confidently demonstrated their knowledge by creating sound patterns for words. What a clever bunch!

Break time today was simply brilliant! We played, had a little snack, and danced to some upbeat music. Then, full of energy, we got stuck into some maths and logic puzzles. We learnt not only how to solve subtraction problems, but also how to create our own subtraction tasks. Well done, everyone!

“What’s that banging sound coming from the classroom next door? Aren’t the older pupils having a lesson?” wondered Kapelki as we were doing oral counting.

Yes, the sound of hammering was quite clear — all because Zvezdochki were having a reading lesson with practical activities. These were special tasks from beavers who had come to the lesson to explain how they select and prepare wood for their constructions.

Zvezdochki learnt that different types of wood vary in hardness, and that you can tell a tree’s age by its rings. The beavers shared many other interesting facts about the structure of a tree trunk, too. After this knowledge-packed chat, our inquisitive pupils put theory into practice — proving that driving the same nails into different types of wood requires different levels of effort. Brilliant work, girls!

In economics, Zvezdochki learnt about numismatists, currency, and exchange rates. Now, if they plan to travel abroad, they’ll know to visit a bank to exchange money for the local currency — and also to choose the bank with the most favourable exchange rate for tourists. A very relevant topic ahead of the holidays!

As you may recall, in their last lesson, the Kapelki explored the history of clothing, and today they turned their attention to footwear. They learnt what kind of shoes people wore in the past, how they were made, and what materials were used. Then, with their clever little hands, they created their own dancing boots — cutting them out, designing and decorating them all by themselves. And we called them “dancing boots” because we read the story The Dancing Boots, held several active games and contests involving shoes, and even had a little dance. What an exciting and educational day!

“What’s that hammering sound coming from the next classroom? Isn’t there a lesson going on in the older class?” wondered Kapelki. Yes indeed — it was a reading lesson for the Zvezdochki, with some very special visitors: beavers, who told the children all about how they select and gather wood for their lodges.
