Today, we very nearly held our school day right out on the grassy patch by the school, as our classrooms were temporarily closed. The idea absolutely thrilled the children, and it sparked a new thought: “Why not have an outdoor lesson in the park or forest one day?” Hmm… certainly worth serious consideration!

Russian language school

In their Russian lesson, Zvezdochki worked with tricky vocabulary words, reinforcing learning through fun and engaging activities.

Later on, during reading time, they met some rather fascinating creatures — beavers! Inspired by the lesson, they even built their very own beaver lodge! And did you know that some beaver lodges are so large, a person could stand up in one? Don’t believe it? Just ask the children — they’re now knowledgeable about the beavers’ life on land and under water.

The beaver theme continued into our financial literacy session. We compared tree sizes — the very same trees the beavers might gnaw down with their mighty teeth. The recorded sound of this was truly something else — not so easy to guess what was happening at first! We even learned, through a bit of hands-on exploration, how to estimate a tree’s diameter using its trunk’s circumference.

Despite the delay, lessons eventually began as usual — though we decided to kick off our day with Kapelki a little differently — with a burst of creativity!

The children were over the moon, and after discussing the topic and the details of their upcoming masterpiece, they eagerly got down to work. First came painting, followed by creating a 3D collage using scissors and lots of imagination. But before finishing our themed project, we, of course, completed a variety of tasks.

Helping us today were Vaselisa and Kayleigh, who brought along a whole suitcase of clothing items for the children to practise describing. And naturally, we spoke about how to care for clothes: washing, ironing, folding and putting everything in its place. The children really took this on board after reading the rhyme “Masha the Messy” and proudly declared that everything is always tidy at home and the clothes are kept neatly in the wardrobe. Well done, little ones! The finished artworks turned out sunny, bright and full of joy!

All in all — an exciting and enriching day!
