Clocks, a Fable, and a Cauldron
Imagine that today both Kapelki and Zvezdochki explored the same topic — though in slightly different ways. We were talking about clocks. The children learnt many fascinating facts: when and where the first clocks appeared, what they looked like, and how, over time, their design evolved to become ever more convenient and — most importantly — more accurate. After all, precision is everything when it comes to timekeeping, isn’t it?
With Kapelki, we played educational games on the theme, looked at the wide variety of modern clocks — from wristwatches and mantel clocks to grandfather clocks and tower clocks — and, of course, decided to make our own. Everyone agreed that a cuckoo clock with a pendulum would be the best model for our craft. The children eagerly coloured the birds, painted the numbers on the clock face, and created their own little masterpieces. Do have a look at our photo gallery!
With Zvezdochki, we took the topic further and explored the workings of simple yet intricate mechanical clocks. How fascinating it was to watch the children’s faces as they saw the mechanism in motion — with all its gears, escapement, and spring drive! We also learnt about how quartz and atomic clocks function, talked about the standard of time, and practised converting one unit of time into another. So, how many minutes are there in a year? Can you work it out? Go on — who’ll be first?
In their Russian language lesson, Zvezdochki not only wrote a dictation but also invented the most extraordinary stories inspired by the text. For instance, we imagined that, instead of a little wooden cottage in a clearing, there stood a robot house that recharged passers-by with music! What imaginations! Later, during their reading comprehension lesson, the children became true actors as they performed a fable with real artistry. Such young talents we have!
Meanwhile, Kapelki, during their Russian language and reading lessons, were busy with handwriting, practising letters and sounds — and even a touch of magic. ✨ In a magical cauldron, they brewed a potion to make wishes come true! And what wishes they were — happiness for everyone, to be clever and wealthy, a golden fish, or even a pet. How wonderful!
It was a day full of discovery, creativity, and enchantment. And who knows what marvels await us next!
